The Royal Hawaiian, A Luxury Collection Resort
This luxury hotel is one of the first hotels to be established in Waikiki, one of the most popular beach towns in Hawaii. Because of the class and prestige of The Royal Hawaiian, it remains to be one of the flagship hotels whenever Hawaiian tourism is promoted.
The hotel first opened its doors to some 1,200 guests in a black tie event that was held on the 1st of February 1927. Since then, The Royal Hawaiian became the standard when it comes to luxury accommodations on the island of Oahu.
Up to the present, the hotel retained the 1920s Spanish and Moorish structures that were influenced by the Arabian movies of Hollywood actor Rudolph Valentino. Pink, which was popular during the era, became the color of the hotel. Because of its color, The Royal Hawaiian is also tagged as the Pink Palace of the Pacific.
The Royal Hawaiian Hotel is found at 2259 Kalakaua Avenue, Honolulu, Hawaii. Although the hotel retained most of its 1920s designs, some of its rooms including the Recreation Lobby and the Oceanside Lounge were redecorated by Frances Elkins in the mid-1940s. In 2008, its public areas and some of the 400 rooms in the six-story structure were also renovated.
