Outrigger Kiahuna Plantation
The Outrigger Kiahuna Plantation occupies 30 acres along a beach-front in Poipu, Koloa, in the Kauai island of Hawaii. It is actually nestled in between the ocean and a shopping mall on the south shore of Kauai. For those who are interested in history, the location was actually a sugar plantation that was founded in 1835.
Low-rise plantation-style buildings in a peaceful setting
The rooms are housed in low-rise plantation-style buildings that are distributed over the area amidst manicured lawns, lava-rock ponds, coconut trees, and gardens. There are 42 of these buildings, providing a total of 333 rooms. Access to the upper units is via outside stairs instead of elevators but the buildings are only three-stories high.
The whole area is smoke-free and one of its well-known features is the Moir Gardens with its 70-year-old orchids, uniquely-shaped cacti, ponds, and lava-rock walls. You can also see a water-lily planter that was originally a whaler's melting pot and several artifacts such as the grinding stone that was employed for the very first sugar mill in the Hawaiian islands.
You can make use of the Kiahuna Swim and Tennis Club that is found on the northern side of the property. It has a swimming pool that was designed to look like a lagoon, 10 tennis courts, a restaurant, and a tennis shop. There are also several areas in the property where you can enjoy a barbecue, including one barbecue area that is strategically located in a coconut grove by the ocean.
You can also arrange for a number of activities with the front desk, including sightseeing trips via helicopter, golf outings, and luaus. Other services include babysitting, video library, safe-deposit box at the front desk, free parking, laundry facilities, concierge services by a local expert, and Internet access.
Rooms with patios and lanais
All rooms have a lanai or patio to provide you with beautiful views of either the ocean or the gardens. To maintain the natural tropical atmosphere, rooms are provided with ceiling fans and ventilation via louvered shutters instead of air-conditioning. Golden-brown woods and bright prints dominate the room decorations.
Other room amenities include housekeeping services, complimentary toiletries, coffee maker, clock radio, Internet access, housekeeping services, cable television with VCR, hair dryer, ironing board and iron, cribs, refrigerator, telephone, and microwave oven.
